Additional Set Ups and Options

Single Shot Knockdown

While the head plate is always an option, you can also use it to set up a single shot drop when the chest plate is hit.

After you stand the target up, hold the chest plate all the way forward then pull back on the head plate till it stops.  This unlocks the release bar and allows the target to drop with a single hit to the chest plate or head plate.

Center Mass Drop Shot

Set up this way will allow the target to drop vertically with the first hit to center mass yet will not activate the fall back reaction of the upper torso.  Essentially the target is still active and will need additional rounds to knock it down.

The center mass drop is controlled with a “shock trigger” and requires that you set it manually if you want to use it.

1)   Hold the small pivoting trigger arm against the bottom of the hip plate.  This is the short pivoting bar that is bolted to the side of the target.

2)  Rotate the hip plate until you feel the notch of the trigger bar engage the notch in the bottom of the hip plate.  The strike surface of the plate will be almost vertical when the two notches meet up.

3)  Let go of the hip plate slowly and it should now stay in place with slight tension on the bar. You may notice that it wants to push the target forward, this is normal and ensures there is tension on the small arm of the trigger.  The weight of a tshirt usually prevents it from pushing the target too far.

A hit to center mass will release the hip plate and allow it to trigger the drop.  Yet the target remains standing and active and will still need to be hit multiple times before it will fall back.

Hip Shots

This doesn’t involve any particular set up, other than resetting the plates should you hit them.  But the plates do create a different reaction to the target than head and chest hits.  This feature of the target is designed to simulate disabling an assailant, meaning stop their forward progress.

The target will drop vertically yet still remain standing.

You will also find that the drop mechanism is split. right and left.  This is an additional feature that allows you to disable one or both sides of the hip drop.

Off Center Shooting

The target has an effective cone of fire of about 60 degrees.  Meaning you can move 30 degrees to either the right or the left and the target will still function as designed.  Just remember that this is only for the chest and head plates.  The hip plates should only be directly engaged when you are more on the centerline of the target.

Transitions

Switching from a Long gun/carbine to your side arm/pistol does not require any changes to the target.  The target for the most part reacts the same way from either weapon, but might take an extra round or two from a light caliber pistol.  You can mix the hits from both weapons and the target functions as designed.
